On February 25th & 26th 2017, teams of students from NHHS placed 2nd and 10th (out of 52 teams) at Duke Moot Court, the prestigious nationwide Supreme Court advocacy competition held annually at Duke University in North Carolina. Individually, one student finished 9th in the country out of 104 competitors. In the DMC competition, students argued two relevant issues. First, whether recovering cancer patients who are prescribed medical marijuana can be criminally prosecuted for taking their prescribed drugs into another state with conflicting drug laws. Second, the students also argued under what circumstances passengers in a car may be subject to a stop and frisk by the police during a freeway stop.
